Discrete Phase
Discrete Phase
The Discrete Phase Model (DPM) is a modeling tool used in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulations to track the motion of discrete particles, such as droplets, bubbles, or solid particles, in a fluid flow. The DPM solves the continuous phase using Navier-Stokes equations while simulating the discrete phase by tracking many particles, bubbles, or droplets passing through the calculated continuous flow field.
Advantages
-
Tracks the motion of individual particles as they go through the fluid. This means that it can provide a more detailed understanding of the behavior of the particles than other methods.
-
Investigate the behavior of particles from a discrete perspective.
-
Simulate the motion of discrete particles such as droplets, bubbles, or solid particles, in a fluid flow.
-
Exchange momentum, mass, and energy with the continuous phase.
